Frequently Asked Questions

Everything about how Marker Muse works — supplies, palettes, coloring books, color tools, community, supported brands, and membership.

Is Marker Muse free?

Yes — Marker Muse is free to explore with no account required. A free account lets you save up to 3 palettes for later, create 1 palette per month, track up to 200 markers from 1 brand, run 1 Photo Match per month, roll 1 custom coloring challenge per month (the challenge of the week is always free), submit 3 mood ideas per 24 hours, create 3 new Buddy Colorings per month, and save 3 new tutorial links per month. Viewing, editing, completing, linking, and deleting existing Buddy Colorings or tutorials does not use those monthly allowances. Marking palettes as used is always unlimited. Pro removes the free-tier caps and unlocks the current Pro tools. A 15-day free trial is available with no credit card required to start.

What marker brands are supported?

Marker Muse includes a growing color catalog across five media types:

Alcohol markers: Ohuhu, Copic, Caliart, Shuttle Art, Spectrum Noir, Grabie, DecoTime, Arrtx OROS, Bianyo, Bianyo Classic, SFAIH, OLO.

Water-based markers: Ohuhu Maui.

Acrylic markers: Posca, Ohuhu Acrylic, Arrtx Acrylic, Shuttle Art Acrylic, Molotow, Guangna Acrylic.

Gel pens: Sakura Gelly Roll, Soucolor, Languo.

Colored pencils: Prismacolor, Kalour, Polychromos, Castle Arts Gold, Castle Arts Soft Touch, Faber-Castell Black Edition, Holbein Artists’ Colored Pencils, Caran d'Ache Luminance, Caran d'Ache Pablo, Derwent Chromaflow.

New brands, colors, and sets are added as the catalog grows.

How does palette generation work?

Palettes are built from catalog color data, color theory relationships, undertones, complementary pairings, and curated palette systems. Generation uses the active Palette brands scope: by default it can draw across the supported catalog, or you can narrow it to brands in your collection or a specific brand selection.

Try the Mood Wizard →

Which brands do generated palettes use?

By default, generated palettes can draw from the supported cross-brand catalog across alcohol markers, water-based markers, acrylic markers, gel pens, and colored pencils.

The free Palette brands control lets you switch between all brands, only brands represented in your collection, or a hand-picked brand selection. Your choice is remembered across sessions.

Open Palette Workspace →

How do I limit palettes to brands I own?

Open the Palette brands control and choose "Only brands I own". This uses the brands represented in your saved collection and is a free account feature, not a Pro-only setting.

Prefer a particular mix? Choose specific brands instead. Generated palettes will stay inside that selected brand scope until you change it.

What is Today’s Palette?

A featured palette appears on Home as a color combination to explore.

Open it to see its colors and palette guidance. If you have a saved collection, My Markers can rebuild it around colors you own — one free My Markers activation is available, while Pro removes that limit.

What are Coloring Challenges?

Coloring Challenges are on-demand prompts for a coloring session — color rules, technique dares, moods, seasonal themes, retro aesthetics, composition constraints, and Random Chaos. Random Chaos can include a wildcard marker from your own saved collection.

Tap "Dare Me To Color", choose the categories you want, and generate a challenge. Challenges can include a difficulty, rough time estimate, tip, skills to practice, and — where it fits — a suggested starting palette of real catalog colors.

There are no required streaks or deadlines. Save challenges you want to revisit, mark them done, and share your result to Community when you choose.

The challenge of the week is free for everyone. Signed-in Free accounts can generate 1 custom challenge per month; Pro removes that monthly cap.

What are Buddy Coloring and Tutorial Inspiration?

Buddy Coloring is a private place to keep the source, deadline, rules, main colors, and finished-page connection for coloring events you join with friends or groups. When exact catalog colors or rule ranges are available, Marker Muse can show candidate colors from your saved collection without changing the original rules.

Tutorial Inspiration keeps your saved links and notes private in My Stuff. You can explicitly share a tutorial to Community after reviewing its public details. Community Tutorials supports search, sorting, filters, and in-feed playback for supported YouTube and TikTok links. Other links open at their original source.

Connect your artwork post to the same My Page as a saved tutorial to show public tutorial credits and Community examples. Existing artwork can be connected by editing its post. Private notes and page names are never shared; hidden, removed, reported, or blocked posts follow Community visibility rules.

Saving personal Buddy Colorings and tutorials requires a signed-in account. Free accounts can create 3 new Buddy Colorings and save 3 new tutorials per month; Pro is unlimited. Existing items remain viewable, editable, completable, linkable, and deletable without using another monthly allowance.

How does Marker Muse handle my artwork and swatch photos?

Marker Muse does not use generative AI to generate, recreate, or alter your artwork. Photo Match and custom-supply swatch sampling process the color area you select on your device.

Swatch tools do not infer marker or supply names, codes, or identities from a sampled hex color. Exact supply identity is only used when it is explicitly known.

When you deliberately use an upload feature — such as sharing Community artwork, setting an avatar, or saving a supported image for another feature — that image follows that feature's upload flow so it can be stored or displayed there.

What makes Marker Muse different from other coloring tools?

Marker Muse connects the practical parts of coloring that usually live in separate places: supplies, palettes, coloring books, color references, inspiration, and community. Its growing color catalog covers alcohol markers, water-based markers, acrylic markers, gel pens, and colored pencils.

That cross-brand data lets Marker Muse compare nearby catalog colors, find alternatives across brands or media, and help you see where supplies overlap.

Palette generation and color matching use catalog data and deterministic color logic rather than generative-AI color suggestions, and Marker Muse does not invent marker identity from a hex-only color.

What is the Color Lab?

Color Lab is the focused palette editor inside Palette Workspace. It supports up to 16 main colors, with catalog search and palette helpers around the colors you choose. Pro unlocks the full Lab controls and tuning tools.

Open the Color Lab →

What is the Mood Wizard?

The Mood Wizard is guided palette discovery based on subject and feeling rather than a single fixed color formula.

Choose a subject and tone to generate a palette in that direction.

Pro includes the four mood tuning sliders — Soft to Dramatic, Muted to Vibrant, Cold to Warm, and Natural to Surreal — for further refinement.

Try the Mood Wizard →

How do I know which color to use where?

Palette views can show roles and supporting guidance for how colors work together — such as highlights, shadows, bases, and accents — when that data is available for the palette.

The goal is to give each color a practical job instead of leaving you with an unlabeled strip of swatches.

Explore palettes →

What is Gap Fill?

Gap Fill looks for useful color areas a palette may not fully cover and suggests real catalog colors that can extend it.

When your collection is available, owned candidates are preferred. When My Markers is active, Gap Fill stays inside your owned colors rather than padding from the catalog.

Gap Fill is a palette helper; it is not listed as a separate Pro-only entitlement.

How do I find a similar color in another brand?

Use Find a color match in Discover to open the Art Supply Matcher. Choose a starting color, then compare nearby colors from a target set or the available catalog.

Compare the suggested names, codes, and swatches, then test the match on your own paper. Color matching is available without Pro; saving and other tools keep their own account and plan limits.

Find a color match →

What is Color Bridge?

Color Bridge is a Pro tool that finds a suggested middle shade between two supply colors.

Open Color Bridge, choose a From color and a To color, then use the suggested middle shade to plan a smoother transition or a three-color palette.

The suggestion is based on color references. Test it on your paper; it does not predict how two inks will physically mix.

Open Color Bridge →

How accurate are the marker color swatches?

Marker pages can show community accuracy checks and a confidence result as evidence is collected for that swatch version. A color that does not yet have enough evidence can show a Collecting state instead of a confidence score, so Marker Muse does not claim that every catalog swatch has already been verified.

Can I share my finished coloring pages?

Yes. Community lets colorists share coloring artwork and, when applicable, the palette or color data attached to that post.

Posts do not all carry the same color metadata: catalog palettes can retain their palette identity, explicitly stored marker colors can retain exact identities, and photo-only or hex-only posts stay limited to the data that was actually supplied.

Marker Muse does not infer a marker identity from a photo or hex value just to fill in missing post data.

Open the Community →

How do I report a community photo?

Community posts that are not your own include a report action. Choose a reason and submit the report.

A post you report is removed from your own feed immediately. After 3 distinct users report the same post, Marker Muse automatically hides it from public Community surfaces while it awaits moderation review.

Open the Community →

Can I find my specific Ohuhu marker set?

Marker Muse includes a catalog of verified Ohuhu sets and their stored marker memberships. Browse the set list to see whether your exact set is currently cataloged.

The catalog includes core, specialty, store-exclusive, and other verified set lines, and it continues to grow as set evidence is added.

A set page shows the marker membership and catalog color information Marker Muse currently has for that set.

Browse Ohuhu sets →

What's the difference between Ohuhu codes and legacy codes?

Some Ohuhu colors have verified legacy/current code aliases in Marker Muse. Where a mapping has been explicitly approved, search can recognize the stored alias as well as the current catalog code. Marker Muse does not guess or globally normalize unverified old/new code mappings.

What devices does Marker Muse work on?

Marker Muse works in modern web browsers on iPhone and Android phones, tablets, and desktops without installing an app. Native apps are also available for iPhone and Android. Use the official App Store and Google Play links on Home to check availability for your device.

How do I save palettes and collections?

Create a free account with Google or email to save account-backed data and sync supported saved items across devices. Free-tier limits still apply to capped actions such as saved-for-later palettes, created palettes, and collection size.

How do I tell Marker Muse which markers I own?

In My Stuff, add a cataloged set you own to mark its stored marker membership as owned, or mark supported individual colors owned from their collection controls.

Your saved collection can then be used by ownership-aware tools and filters. The free Palette brands control can scope generation to brands represented in your collection, while My Markers provides a stricter owned-color mode on supported palette surfaces.

Signed-in collection data syncs across supported devices, subject to the account's collection limits.

Open My Stuff →

What's the difference between saving a palette for later and marking it as used?

Save for later and Mark as used are separate palette actions. Save for later is a bookmark for palettes you want to return to; Mark as used records palettes you've actually colored with.

A palette can be both saved for later and marked as used.

Free accounts can save up to 3 palettes for later, while Mark as used is unlimited. Pro removes the save-for-later cap.
