Bleed-through and feathering are different

Bleed-through is ink reaching the back of the sheet. Feathering is ink spreading sideways beyond the line. A thicker sheet can still feather, and a coated marker paper can still show ink on the back, so test both behaviors separately.

Smooth paper usually supports cleaner blends

A smoother surface generally lets alcohol ink move before it dries and reduces nib drag. Very absorbent paper can drink ink quickly, require more passes, and make transitions harder to control.

Coloring books need a protection sheet

Many coloring books use paper chosen for printing rather than alcohol ink. Put a nonporous or sacrificial sheet behind the page, test a small area, and assume the reverse side may not remain usable unless the book is designed for markers.

• Test feathering across a printed line
• Check whether ink reaches the reverse side
• Compare one-pass color with layered color
• Watch for paper fibers catching or fraying the nib
• Confirm the size works with your printer or coloring pages
• Use a backing sheet even when the paper is labeled marker-friendly
